In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, a group of students, 3000 miles from the epicenter in a small town in Scotland, decided to respond and created the unique fashion establishment “DONT WALK.” Ever since, it has been an organization unwaiveringly dedicated to philanthropy through the combination of art, fashion and performance. Realizing the power and relevance that both fashion and the arts have in the discourse of political affairs and daily events, it chose to use these as the means of communication. This precise component is what remains DONT WALK's most distinctive characteristic, enabling it to become a unique platform to respond to societal and political issues. It has grown into the UK's largest, invite-only, student charity fashion show.
Each year, the organization elects a creative director to head the institution for a year, during which it organizes a number of events that aim to raise both money and awareness for its chosen charities and ultimately put on the annual fashion show. I was given the privilege to orchestrate the creative vision and direction for two consecutive years, 2013 and 2014. In those years alone, DONT WALK raised nearly £ 40,000.
